| Astana is the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Located in Northern Kazakhstan on the river Ishim. The second largest city of Kazakhstan. In 1999 year by the decision of UNESCO awarded the title "city of peace". The internal division of the city is represented by three administrative districts. The population of 697,3 thousand people, 65.2% of Kazakhs, 23,8% Russian, 2.9% of Ukrainians, about 1.5% Tatars and Germans.

Based in 1830 year as a Cossack Outpost of Akmola. In 1862 year became the town received the name Akmola or Akmolinsk. The name is associated with the development of virgin lands. In 1992 year again renamed as Akmola. In 1998 year became the capital of Kazakhstan and received the name Astana, meaning "White Palace".
